Different cooking problems need different checks
An oven that takes too long to preheat, cooks unevenly or stops maintaining its setting may need its heating and temperature regulation examined. A range can have a working oven but an unresponsive surface burner, or the reverse. On a cooktop, ignition trouble and a heating zone that will not activate are distinct symptoms. Tell us which functions still work and which no longer behave normally.
Mention whether the appliance uses gas or electricity and whether an error code appears on its display. If the fault occurs only during a particular cooking mode, include that detail. Describing a change in performance is more useful than guessing whether the control board, element or igniter is responsible.
Make safety the first step
Do not use an appliance that gives off smoke unexpectedly, sparks or shows damaged electrical connections. Allow hot surfaces to cool before approaching the area for model information. Avoid pulling a range away from the wall yourself, especially when you do not know how its power and gas connections are arranged.
A gas odor calls for immediate action rather than a standard appointment: leave the area and contact your gas utility or emergency services from a safe place. For a non-emergency repair visit, clear items from the cooking surface and explain whether the unit is freestanding, built into cabinetry or installed as a separate wall oven.
